I recently purchased Lover's Embrace for use in my classroom. My students started a poetry unit and I wanted a book that could both anchor their understanding in the classroom and one I could enjoy at home. Lover's Embrace was great for this purpose because its deals with adult subject matter but still has plenty of room left over for teaching. The author tackles universal themes like love and heart break which any teenage student can identify with (a large reason I chose this novel) and addresses them with poignant, direct honesty, a quality which I find is sometimes lacking in other works of poetry (personally, I'm bothered when an author is afraid to say what's on their mind and covers up direct emotion with overly-flowery vocabulary). C. Tremayne Hamm does not do this, he throws up his hands and spits words at the reader like a current of electricity. I highly recommend this work to anyone who needs a jolt now and again, just make sure to replace the battery in your pace-maker first.Product details
